Lumbar osteochondrosis

Lumbar osteochondrosis

Osteochondrosis is a disease of the spine in which the intervertebral discs (and subsequently the vertebral bodies, joints, and ligaments) lose the ability to function normally.

The lumbar spine is very susceptible to conditions such as osteochondrosis.

Symptoms of lumbar osteochondrosis are often difficult to recognize because the disease can take many forms.

symptom

In the early stages of development, symptoms are very mild: patients complain mainly of pain in the lower back, which worsens with movement and bending.

One to two years after the onset of lumbar osteochondrosis, pain may spread to the buttocks or groin area.Movement stiffness occurs in the lumbar area.

Osteochondrosis of the lumbar spine develops slowly, but over time, worsening episodes occur more frequently and symptoms intensify as more and more new vertebrae continue to be affected.

The most common variant of lumbar osteochondrosis is chronic low back pain. With this form, the following symptoms can be observed:

  • Symptoms appear cyclically and fluctuate.
  • The pain in the lower back is not very severe and gets worse in the morning.
  • Back stiffness.
  • The pain will subside after 30 minutes, but even slight pressure may trigger it again.
  • The pain may suddenly intensify, known as "low back pain," often also due to physical exertion—acute low back pain.Acute low back pain symptoms can last for 1-2 weeks, and are later replaced by chronic low back pain symptoms.

Treatment of lumbar osteochondrosis

The same symptoms may be signs of different illnesses, and the illnesses may not play out in textbook fashion.Do not attempt to treat it on your own - consult your doctor.

During an exacerbation of the condition, hospitalization is required for a week.It is recommended that the patient rest in bed; it is recommended to walk with a cane, which can reduce the burden on the waist.

To treat lumbar osteochondrosis, various spinal tractions and back massages can be performed.

Medication includes analgesics, sedatives, and vitamins. In some cases, blockade with anesthetics is required.

Physical therapy includes lumbar ultraviolet radiation, novocaine electrophoresis and ultrasound therapy.

Therapeutic exercises for lumbar osteochondrosis are a mandatory part of treatment. It is designed to strengthen the back muscles.

Exercises include flexion and extension, abduction and adduction, and rotation.Exercising in a pool is most effective because the water takes the load off your spine.

When lumbar osteochondrosis symptoms worsen and spina bifida occurs, therapeutic exercises include breathing exercises.

At home, applying iodine, pepper ointment, mustard ointment, etc. to the painful area every day has good results in treating lumbar osteochondrosis.

Traditional remedies for lumbar osteochondrosis include hot compresses with birch leaf or black radish juice.
